PLDT buys Sun Cellular operator!!!

Part of our IT interesting globe smart topics is the acquisition of Digital Telecommunications Philippines, Inc. (Digitel) by the Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) company "from JG Summit amounting to Php74.1 billion or 51.55% shares in exchange of new PLDT assets worth 2,500 per share." PLDT owns the smart communications, red mobile, and talk 'n text, while Digitel owns the sun cellular, the third largest player in Philippines' telco industry.

According to Digitel, they will continue the expansion of broadband and of future technologies together with PLDT. Last year, smart has already forty five million subscribers, while sun cellular has sixteen million subscribers. On the other hand, the second telco player, globe, has twenty seven million subscribers. Do you think it's the best move for Digitel?

  1. I think that it is not about Digitel, but those who own and manage Digitel, for those who manage it, it won't be that beneficial considering that they would have to report to someone else of a higher position than them, and of course, they won't be able to determine their own paychecks anymore, hehe...

But for the shareholders of Digitel, I think that they made the right choice because I believe that an upcoming MAJOR CLASH between SMART(PLDT) and Globe telecom, they needed to choose a side, and they chose the one which they and I believe to be the most stable contender.

But take heed that Globe telecom offers a larger dividends to its shareholders with due respect to the value of its shares compared to that of those of the PLDT. But that can also mean that instead of reaping the fruits of their labor, they are just trying to attract investors. This is an opinion and as of now, I have no way of confirming my assumptions...

    =)

  2. For me kuya,it's not the best move for Digitel because as you look at their subscribers,Smart has 45M,while Globe has 27M and Sun Cellular only got 16M subscribers. Also Digitel only owns Sun Cellular while PLDT owns the smart communications, red mobile, and talk 'n text.

PLDT offers to buy the Digitel and
also PLDT promises according to PLDT Group chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan. "We will also retain the unlimited products and services of the group, so that consumers are able to continue benefitting from them."

But according to Lance Y. Gokongwei, president and COO of JG Summit Holdings, said it was a "very difficult decision" to sell Digitel.

  11. No More competition means the winner specifically PLDT can take over everything. They can manipulate consumer'price whenever they want.
It is not Good to have one company to rule over our telecommunications, for me the economy needs competitions for it prosper and not be imbalance. But as well a healthy competition:)

  16. Even if they retain the unlimited products...there will be changes...One assumption that that will be changing in prices and maybe they add new products that maybe will benefit the consumers or their selves...hmmmmpp..
